The story

Millwright began in 1987 with one lathe, two toolmakers and a pump maker down the road who needed forty shafts by Friday. He got them on Thursday, measured.

The plant is larger now and the machines are faster, but the habit is the same: read the drawing properly, say what will not work before the metal is cut, measure everything and ship on the day that was promised.

  1. 1987

One lathe in a rented bay

Two toolmakers start turning shafts for a pump maker down the road. The first order is forty parts.

A lathe chuck holds a steel shaft inside a mill-turn machine
  2. 1996

    The first CNC machining centre

Programs replace hand wheels. Batches grow from dozens to thousands, and the night shift begins.

A machinist looks into an open CNC machining centre
  3. 2004

A quality lab in the middle of the floor

ISO 9001, the first CMM and a rule that still holds: no batch moves on until it has been measured.

An inspector beside the measuring machine in the glass-walled lab
  4. 2012

    Fabrication and welding move in

A second hall opens for laser cutting, forming and welding. Frames and machined parts leave on one order.

A welder at work on a steel frame, sparks flying
  5. 2019

    Assembly lines and AS9100D

Customers ask for tested units, not boxes of parts. Three lines are built and aerospace approval follows.

Two technicians fit parts on the assembly line
  6. Today

    2.4 million parts a year

Five capabilities under one roof, 210 people and the same promise as in 1987: the part fits the first time.

Three colleagues in hi-vis vests talk in a warehouse aisle
